A snapshot of guest ratings and stories behind the stay.
“Staying locally whilst on holiday we popped in on a couple of evenings for dinner and we weren’t disappointed. Great staff and the food was typical good pub grub…(nothing fancy or pretentious),but good sized portions, with good service and well cooked. Very reasonably priced which makes it all the better.”
“We ate the Restuarant on our way back to Coniston. We ordered fish/chips, lamb kofta and a lamb shank. The food was delicious as was the warmth of the staff. Bart and Norman were the kindest. The veggies could have been tastier though. Great place, awesome toilets etc.”
“We only stayed for the one night but we will definitely be back for longer. We stayed with our Dog and everything was perfect. Lovely grass area outside where you could enjoy a few drinks and let the dog roam. Then once the sun went in the bar area was very welcoming with a log burner. We had a great meal, thoroughly recommend the pie and Sticky Toffee pudding. Excellent portions and really delicious. The same could also be said for Breakfast which was freshly cooked and set us up well for the day. The room was fantastic. Looked like it had been recently updated (or at the very least cleaned to a high standard!). Comfy bed, lovely shower with great local toiletries and there was plenty of space for the dog. its a great location for exploring Ullswater and the surrounding fells. Much cheaper than staying in Keswick but the quality of everything means its such great value for money! We will be back.”
“Beautiful hotel with a rich history! Atmosphere is warm and welcoming, room was clean and heated. The bathroom was spacious and modern and the breakfast was fresh and delicious. The setting is magnificent, set in a tiny town right by the mountain.”
“We had two beautiful dinners while staying at this hotel. The interior looks like any other pub, but the food excellent quality. Homemade, fresh and expertly cooked. Hats off to the chef! We were very happy with the breakfast too.”
“Had a lovely stay here for my birthday, very friendly and attentive staff. Very comfortable bed. The kettle in the room could do to be on a lower table. We had an evening meal one day during our stay as we found it quite expensive but it was worth the money. Best food we’ve had in a while. I had beer battered fish and chips, with mushy peas and tartare sauce, my partner had pie of the day which was venison , with chips and veg. We also had a side of onion rings and garlic ciabatta. Would highly recommend. We will definitely visit again. Our dog Freddie loved the bath!”
